Synergies in the Development of Mathematical Editors

Dear Developers and Users of Mathematical Editors,

At the Doctoral Programm of the CICM Conference in Birmingham last week, one of the senior researchers challenged the developers of mathematical editors to sit together, compare their implementations, and find synergies.

That day, some of us sat together and thought that this might be a good point and should not only involve the developers but also users that might be able to point to valuable requirements and, in particular, take over the testing ;-)

Survey about issues with mathematical knowledge items

I'd like to invite you to participate in a little survey on mathematical knowledge items, possible issues with them, and how to solve issues. It will take around 10 minutes to answer the questions.

The results will be used in order to improve the mathematical argumentation ontology that is used in the semantic wiki SWiM and thus the assistance in tracking and solving issues there.

Implementation of developers' and authors' support available

The deliverables D 5.2 "Implementation of developers' support" and D 6.2 "Implementation of authors' support" are now available.

Workshop proceedings (deliverable 3.4.1) available

Deliverable 3.4.1, which is a collection of the papers and slides that were presented during the first (Lisbon) and second (Linz) JEM workshop in Lisbon and Linz, is now available here.

Portal assessment report published

The portal assessment report (deliverable D 2.3.2) for the JEM web site has been published. It covers the period Jan - Aug 2007. The online document can be found here.

Recordings of the workshop are online

Recordings of the OpenMath Joint with JEM workshop are being currently processed. They have a quite variable degree of quality unfortunately (with some holes and some sound missing), however they are now online:

  • Recording of day 1 (Miner, Kohlhase, Discussion & Panel, Libbrecht, Xambo, Verrijzer, Rabe, Davenport)
  • Recording of day 2 (Seppälä, Carlisle, Miller, Ion, Miesenberger, Watt, Eixarch, Pauna, Cerval-Peña)

New members join the JEM network

Two new members have officially joined the JEM network in May 2007: Aristotle University of Tessaloniki and Chalmers University of Technology.

Working Drafts for MathML3 and MathML for CSS published

The Math Working Group published the first drafts of two new specifications: MathML version 3 is the latest version of MathML and A MathML for CSS profile describes how to use (a subset of) MathML3 that can be rendered in browsers that only support CSS.
