Program of the 5th JEM workshop online
The final program of the 5th JEM Workshop is now online at http://www.jem-thematic.net/en/workshop5. The workshop will focus on the "Impact of ICT on the Teaching of Mathematics and on the Mathematics Curriculum" and will take place on 26-27 November 2008 in Paris hosted by the Finnish Institute.
Wiki for OpenMath Content Dictionaries
SWiM, the Semantic Wiki for Mathematical Knowledge Management, is now being used for the revision of the OpenMath 3 Content Dictionaries. The wiki at wiki.openmath.org contains the latest draft versions of these content dictionaries. Anybody can browse and discuss. The OpenMath 3 developers can also edit. This paper explains how the system works.

odt2tbook has just received an award
odt2dtbook has recently received the OpenOffice.org Community Innovation Program Gold Award. This award recognises work carried out with Vincent Spiewak on the development of the odt2dtbook, an OpenOffice.org-writer “export to DTBook XML” extension (see http://chezdom.net/blog/?p=61). The story was published yesterday on Sun website: http://www.sun.com/aboutsun/media/features/2008-0924/, including an interview of several winners.
Thanks a lot to the OpenOffice.org community and to Sun Microsystems. It means so much that an Assistive Technology project gets this kind of award.
JEM server down on Saturday
JEM Server was down most of Saturday, September 27. The reason for this seems to be a distributed attack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ddos#Distributed_attack) to our server bringing the server down. We are taking action to prevent this in the future.
Synergies in the Development of Mathematical Editors
Dear Developers and Users of Mathematical Editors,
At the Doctoral Programm of the CICM Conference in Birmingham last week, one of the senior researchers challenged the developers of mathematical editors to sit together, compare their implementations, and find synergies.
That day, some of us sat together and thought that this might be a good point and should not only involve the developers but also users that might be able to point to valuable requirements and, in particular, take over the testing ;-)
