SCooP Promotion

How can SCooP reach a more diverse and international audience?

Online Proceedings SCooP II

I am glad to announce that the Proceedings of the 2nd Workshop on Scientific Communities of Practice are online now.

The workshop raised a lot of interesting discussion on scientific tools and methods that potentially can support the scientific community, in particular, the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics disciplines.

Survey about issues with mathematical knowledge items

I'd like to invite you to participate in a little survey on mathematical knowledge items, possible issues with them, and how to solve issues. It will take around 10 minutes to answer the questions.

The results will be used in order to improve the mathematical argumentation ontology that is used in the semantic wiki SWiM and thus the assistance in tracking and solving issues there.

New Special Interest Group in JEM: SCOOP

The SCOOP workshop has generated quite some interest and the request to create a SIG for coordinating those members interested in Scientific Communities of Practice. This is a great idea and so we have a general entry page, a new classification keyword, SCOOP, which comes with RSS feed. Christine Mueller is coordinating this new SIG, congratulations Christine!

How should the JEM portal support SIGs activities?

I would like to call for your feedback on how the portal can be improved to support activities of coordination in special interest groups. One way for you to improve the portal is by

  • using it and reporting pitfalls to the administrator (use the Contact form)
  • read the deliverables, you might be surprised - did you ever try "Search"? did you ever use "Subscribe" to stay informed on changes on a page/wiki e.g. this one? , did you ever contact another member using the contact tab?, did you ever rearrange/sort the entries on a table?

SCOOP workshop at the Jacobs University in August 2007

Dear JEM members,

I would like to invite to participate in a JEM workshop on "identifying and supporting scientific communities (of practice) in educational scenarios" at the Jacobs university this summer (most likely in august).

I highly appreciate your feedback on the topic as well as the organization (date, submission) of the workshop. Please post your comments, recommendations in terms of the topics of the workshop as well as dates and submissions. I also appreciate any volunteers for reviewing.
