Learning resources review
Learning resources published at JEM are reviewed in a way similar to Software and Services, but for a larger set of criteria.
A review will comprise an evaluation based on the following set of criteria. Each of them will require an overall score, 1-10 from "insufficient" to "excellent", and a short motivation of the score.
- Clarity of learning objectives rates whether the resource specifies the learning goals clearly enough.
- Credits to creators and license terms should be present.
- Professional presentation rates the quality of grammar and spelling, design choices, use of fonts and of colors, and proper language.
- Appropriate references evaluates the presence of bibliographic references and further materials for learners who wish to go deeper into a topic.
- Appropriate use of technology evaluates whether the technologies used are the ones most suited to the task.
- Accuracy of content rates the correctness of the content.
- Adherence to stated learning objectives evaluates how well the resource accomplishes the stated learning objectives.
- Clear identification of target learners aims to provide guidance in the intended user group for a resource.
- Clarity of usage instructions measures the documentation for the end users, its clarity and coverage.
- Effective/engaging use of technology considers whether the software implements an effective and/or engaging use of technology for learning and teaching mathematics.
- Feedback opportunity/assessment support rates whether the resource provides enough feedback to the learner or/and a possibility to assess the learning process.
- Availability of case studies should link if possible case studies or papers that document the relevance of the software or service as learning technology.
- Identification of pre-requisites specifies whether necessary pre-requisites for an effective learning process using the resource are clearly stated. It does not refer to technical pre-requites.
- Usability in learning environment aims to establish whether the software or service can be integrated in learning environments.
- Ease of navigation/user interface rates the user interface design, its consistency, intuitive functionalities, and pleasant look and feel.
- Accessibility evaluates the design in terms of differently able users.
- Technical requirements documentation rates the installation pre-requisites and instructions.
- Metadata accuracy rates the completeness and availability of standard metadata record for the resource.
