Organization of the conference "The future of mathematics education in Europe" in Lisboa, http://www.fmee2007.org/, on 16-18 December 2007. This event was promoted by the Academia Europaea in the framework of the Portuguese presidency of the European Union. The goal of the conference was to:

• outline an agenda for action for mathematics education trying to obtain a consensus, and to list critical points;
• present the agenda to stakeholders in the education and science policy arena for further development, and plan implementation.

More than 300 participants attended the event, mainly from Europe.
