Predictive Power of the Diagnostic Test
The UPC diagnostic test (see DT) has been administered at the Mathematics and Statistics School (September 2007 and 2008) and at the Civil Engineering School (2008). There are indications that suggest a high predictive power, in the sense that scores higher than 60% succeed in the first year, which has selective character, and that scores less than 50% fail. A case study has been undertaken by M. R. Estela, F. Massanés and S. Xambó to find robust evidence for this hypothesis, or otherwise.

DragMath
DragMath is a free "drag and drop" equation editor. It is a Java applet which can simply run within a web browser on most computers.
The editor lets users build up mathematical expressions in a traditional two dimensional way, and then output the results in a correctly formed syntax. This is not so easy: mathematical notation contains some ambiguities. Still, we appear to be stuck with traditional notation for the foreseeable future, see for example this article for some comments on notation. This gives some idea of the design of DragMath.

Revising the OpenMath 3 Content Dictionaries with SWiM
The semantic wiki SWiM is now being used for the revision of the OpenMath 3 Content Dictionaries. The wiki at wiki.openmath.org contains the latest draft versions of these content dictionaries. Anybody can browse and discuss. The OpenMath 3 developers can also edit. This paper explains how the system works.
The purpose of this case study is twofold:
- supporting the OpenMath developers with a tool that is more advanced than accessing the OpenMath Subversion repository with a text or XML editor
