Math Lookup in Firefox: WikiLook plugin
Firefox and Quicktime
I was very frustrated by the podcast page of Mika since the movies never played on my preferred Firefox browser under Linux. I complained to him and he added the disclaimer These podcasts require QuickTime. They will not run on a generic player. to his Calculus podcasts page.
Nightly firefox prefers STIX
Since 2007-12-05, the nightly builts of Firefox prefers the STIX fonts if installed. This is good of course however most users update their browsers with automatic updates and do not install manually the nightly builts, so most users will still need to wait. As a follow up exercise to my STIX experiments, I wanted to check what was done to enable the STIX fonts in the nightly built. Here is a log.
Firefox plugins
At times I wonder why people choose to use a browser instead of another, in particular, why should one use Firefox, besides for the obvious reason that it renders the mathematics in MathML natively. Then, one discovers a new plugin for Firefox, like Zotero, and the answer becomes so clear.

STIX fonts for MathML in firefox
David's blog post on the new stix fonts prompted me to test replacing the standard fontset used by firefox to display MathML. To do that, follow the detailed instructions by R. Sidje on how to add the math font preference to your prefs.js
user_pref("font.mathfont-family", "STIXGeneral, STIXGeneral-Italic, STIXGeneral-Bold, STIXGeneral-BoldItalic");
