Synergies in the Development of Mathematical Editors
Dear Developers and Users of Mathematical Editors,
At the Doctoral Programm of the CICM Conference in Birmingham last week, one of the senior researchers challenged the developers of mathematical editors to sit together, compare their implementations, and find synergies.
That day, some of us sat together and thought that this might be a good point and should not only involve the developers but also users that might be able to point to valuable requirements and, in particular, take over the testing ;-)
Updates on the JEM learning repository
The learning repository on the JEM portal now supports some new features. You can now easily register your learning resources on the JEM portal, eg. if you have records elsewhere you may now use it to import the metadata into the JEM repository.
All the records are validated before import, to find out how we did this and a list of new features, visit our repository guide. A description of the LOM Import module along with the code is also available at http://www.jem-thematic.net/node/935.

The aim of the symposium is to bring together content providers, developers, teachers and educational researchers to discuss and share the best practices of the ongoing research, applications and projects on web-based interactive mathematics.
Online Proceedings SCooP II
I am glad to announce that the Proceedings of the 2nd Workshop on Scientific Communities of Practice are online now.
The workshop raised a lot of interesting discussion on scientific tools and methods that potentially can support the scientific community, in particular, the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics disciplines.
JEM booth at ICME 11
JEM will exhibit at ICME 11, the International Congress on Mathematical Education, in its eleventh edition is to be held in Monterrey, Mexico, July 6 - 13, 2008. The JEM Thematic Network will have its own booth hosted by Mika Seppälä, Olga Caprotti and Ramon Eixarch and open during exhibition hours. This full-time activity will complement the JEM workshop that is part of the official ICME program. Come by and talk to us!
Survey about issues with mathematical knowledge items
I'd like to invite you to participate in a little survey on mathematical knowledge items, possible issues with them, and how to solve issues. It will take around 10 minutes to answer the questions.
The results will be used in order to improve the mathematical argumentation ontology that is used in the semantic wiki SWiM and thus the assistance in tracking and solving issues there.

Downtime on JEM site
JEM website was down due to a service crash on the webserver, the downtime started around 10:00PM CET on June 2nd, 2008 and ended around 09:00 AM CET on June 3rd, 2008.
The website should now be running smoothly, we will investigate further on the cause of the crash.
Please report any problems on the website.
