NAG Periodic report
NAG has continued to pay an active role in XML Standardization issues, David Carlisle acting as editor for both MathML For CSS profile and also for the new working draft of MathML 3.0. At the recent Openmath/JEM public workshop it was proposed that he be a member of the editorial team charged with developing OpenMath3 and ensuring alignment between OpenMath and MathML.
In addition to work on MathML standardization, some effort has been placed in evaluating the Mathematical abilities, and in particular the MathML input/output from Microsoft's Office 2007 applications. These are likely to play an increasingly important role in contexts where authoring in "Office" applications is a requirement. Early indications are, that despite some initial problems that need to be addressed, this will be a useful addition to the set of tools available. The use of Word 2007 to edit MathML expressions cut and pasted from Internet Explorer, and Maple systems was demonstrated at the JEM workshop in June 2007.
