Producing scientific documents accessible to blind and visually impaired people

Blind and visually impaired people usually cope with several challenges in accessing scientific educational resources. That prevents many of them from undertaking scientific courses. At present there exist best practices which can be employed to produce digital scientific documents accessible to blind and visually impaired people. In this tutorial the main problems blind and visually impaired people meet in reading scientific documents will be introduced, then state-of-the-art and emerging best practices to overcome accessibility issues will be illustrated by examples and step by step procedures. Basic experience in writing scientific documents is the only prerequisite. Participants will learn how to write scientific documents (e.g. lecture notes, exercises, tests, etc.) which can be used by blind and visually impaired students as well as by sighted students. Tutorial duration will be one hour. Projector and loudspeakers are needed.
