In my last blog I promised to report today about the results of me trying to create podcasts of my calculus lectures. Today I have used my new Mac for that purpose with some success. The ProfCast (http://www.profcast.com/public/index.php) software makes it very easy to create a podcast out of a PowerPoint presentation. It worked for me without problems. ProfCast does not, however, seem to offer any possibilities to edit the audio track. Convenient and easy editing of audio tracks is a strong point of Captivate. ProfCast lacks here. But I was easily able to export my ProfCast file to GarageBand, and with GarageBand I can then edit the audio track. Clearly this seems a good option.

Those of you using Camtasia may wonder why I have not tried Camtasia (http://www.techsmith.com/). The reason is that Camtasia did not install on my Vista computer (contrary to the promises made on the website), and Camtasia is not available for Macs (as stated on their website). This is a pity, because Camtasia might be a better solution since it seems to offer a large variety of output formats.

For the time being, I will stick to Captivate. Its editing capabilities are excellent. The only drawback is that Captivate creates only Flash files. Perhaps the new iPod Touch will be able to play them? Stay tuned, more to follow. I should get my iPod Touch on Monday.
